After this I cried for hours because Zelda 2 punched me in the stomach and took my lunch money.

I was gonna say, that’s not really how Zelda 2 ever made me feel. Unless there is a dance specific to “woeful incompetence in platforming”.
The second zelda is bittersweet for me. I loved it, when it came out it was a great break in play style. I was a dragon warrior fan as well and it was fun to have the side scroller mixed with the overhead map. It wasn’t for everyone though.
However, it was bitter in that after playing the game we got to the last battle and defeated gannon’s initial form…and nothing happened, our hero sat there while the crickets chirped and we started walking to the side, I think at one point we were so desparate we rubber banded the right arrow down and left it over night. We tried blowing, cleaning, and finally we tried creating a new game and beating it again…same issue. We had a bad cartridge.
To this day I haven’t beat the game. I have gotten the ROM a couple times but some piece of my psyche looses interest when I get to the last castle….
That’s heartbreaking! The prospect of not being able to finish a Zelda game would definitely do some long term damage to the series for me. I think you should correct the errors of history and beat the game.
Btw, I think you lost your beard by the fourth panel.
Yeah, Zelda II will do that to you.
