This is a great drink for not only its taste, but also getting some good sweating going on. I’ve got a friend who also put cayenne pepper in there, but I’ve yet to incorporate that into my regular recipe.
What other home remedies for colds do you have?

"Got a nasty cold?"
"Chop up a bunch of ginger and throw it in your biggest mug"
"Add a spoonful of honey and squeeze half a lemon in there"
"Fill the mug with boiling water, give it a stir, and drink it down as soon as you can (don't drink the pieces of ginger)"

Meals with lots of habanero (or other chili) in it. Pair with rice if your stomach can’t take it otherwise.
You just got me really hungry.
One of my favorites is an herbal tea. Use dried rose buds, chamomile, rosemary, lemon grass and linden leaves. Put them in a sauce pan and let them simmer for 10 min, strain into a cup and add honey. It always helps when I’m sick!
That sounds really delicious! Definitely on my list for next time if I can track those things down.
what you do PLUS garlic and parsley. if it’s a sore throat then i chew on some garlic as well. hard core.
Jeez, Athanasia, you ARE hardcore. I did a lot of raw garlic eating when I had pneumonia. Is the parsley just to get rid of the garlic smell?
Tea, honey, lemon and (most important)…bourbon! You can leave out the first three ingredients, if yyou want.
I’ve definitely got to incorporate this into my recipe.
Otherwise known as a Hot Toddy. Works wonders
I read an article in a pseudo-science journal which claimed that a vitamin C overload really helps with a cold. They gave something like 10000% RDA vitamin C to two sets of people: those with colds, and those without. They found that the healthy people had the normal adverse affects to a vit. c overload (diarrhea) whereas those with illness did not. The article went on to say that the body knows when it can use excess vitamin C to help ward off colds. [I should probably just link to the article.. but I can't find it] Since then, I’ve always taken double/triple vit.c supplements when I have a cold, and I seem to feel better, but I think all the best remedies have a large placebo-factor! As a scientist I must also note that most peer-reviewed research seems to be in agreement that vit. c does not help with a cold. In conclusion, just make sure you get plenty of (non-diuretic) fluids, and use whatever placebo “cure” you are most comfortable with. Although honey, ginger and lemon tea definitely feels nice on the throat!
I believe my mom suggested a technique which she referred to as “titration” a few years ago. From what I can remember, you basically drank large amounts of citric acid powder dissolved in water until you started to get the runs. After that point, you were supposed to be good against your cold. I’ve still never had the guts or urge to try that but it sounds exactly like what you’re talking about.
Hmm this is nothing I drink, but if I have a sore throat, I wrap a large sock or cloth around my neck when I sleep. I think it mostly makes me sleep with my mouth closed so my throat doesn’t get dry and thus more irritated.
I do what you do, plus apple cider vinegar. Really helps clear things up. Or, one I haven’t done in awhile is to fill a shot glass with apple cider vinegar and put in a spoonful of baking soda. Drink as it fizzes. (Mom taught me that one.)
any kind of tea with a quite large amount of sugar.
it’s easier too keep in when nauseated.
and further chicken soup and tangerines, they tend to work wonders for me!
