My mom got tickets for us to see a comedian at the local performing arts center. I was more than a little apprehensive about going, mostly because I was doubtful of any comedian’s abilities who would wind up in our town. As it turned out the comedian was incredibly funny. His opener, however, bombed hard. What’s worse, it didn’t seem like a bad night for him. He really seemed to be doing his best. And it sucked.

True, the realization I had while watching him was rather melodramatic at the time. Comparing one’s self to others often doesn’t end well. When it comes down to it, I know absolutely nothing about this guy. Then again, even if he was failing, is that so bad?

I am a firm believer that failing is a catalyst. Hell, I had to fail at so many other things before I even considered trying to support myself with cartooning.

In the end, it really doesn’t matter. I’d like to be a successful cartoonist. However, if I had to choose between quitting or continuously failing at cartooning, I’d choose failing.

Speaking of which, help me feed the comics monkey! Shipping is $1 for all US American orders until August 4th!
