About
Good evening and welcome to Caffeinated Toothpaste, the almost-daily diary strip of Josh Bauman. Perhaps these more or less accurate tidbits will help soothe some of your deep questions.
FAQ – ask away…
Q: Why are you doing this?
A: A little while ago I was working on a weekly assignment from Ivan Brunetti’s “Cartooning: Philosophy and Practice.” The assignment was to create a week of daily diary strips using four black and white panels with no title other than the date. I haven’t stopped, though I continue to play with and tweak some of the elements of the strip.
Q: Draw something for me!
A: That’s not quite a question, but sure! I’m available for all sorts of illustration and comic-related freelance work. Shoot me an e-mail and we’ll go from there.
Q: How do you take your coffee?
A: When I’m not mainlining it, black. At home I use either a moka pot or a chemex coffeemaker. I’ve got a few different grinders but my favorite, at the moment, is my Zassenhaus mocha mill.

you take your coffee very seriously no? I enjoy the bodum grinder and press. With a kettle.
To begin with… Stupendous comic! Keep up the hysterical work!
Secondly, What kind of tablet do you use?
Thanks for all the laughs,
AP 🙂
@AP Thank you very much! I currently use an Intuos4 in the Studio and a Bamboo Fun at home. Hopefully that should be changing soon, but something is on backorder…
Thanks for the Info! I was looking into a bamboo fun.
Hi Josh,
I’m Australian – I picked up your book in a little gallery/bookshop off Hackachecker Markt (spelling?) when I was in Berlin a few months ago and you’ve inspired me to make a daily cartoon blog too. Now to learn to cartoon! I’ve ordered a copy of Ivan Brunetti’s book so here goes!
cheers
Joel
Cool! I think you got the book from Neurotitan in Hackescher Markt. Best of luck with the Brunetti book. It’s a deep deep well.
You should try a express coffee machine. They are the best and also more effective. Bialetti is my favorite one. Thanks for the sticker that you gave to me today in the fleamarket!
